DeepDyve and Project MUSE Collaborate to Streamline Access to Humanities and Social Sciences Content

Partnership Further Cements DeepDyve’s Position as World’s Largest Cloud-based Rental Service for Peer-reviewed Journals

October 16, 2012 — Sunnyvale, CALIF — DeepDyve, the leading online rental service for scholarly and professional research articles, today announced its partnership with Project MUSE, a collaboration that will result in the addition of more than 30 publishers to DeepDyve’s ever-growing library of rentable, peer-reviewed journal articles. Since its inception in 1995, Project MUSE has grown to become one of the industry’s leading providers of specialized content in the fields of humanities and social sciences. Its electronic journal collections support a wide array of research needs at academic, public, special and school libraries worldwide.

“DeepDyve shares our vision of embracing technology to make peer-reviewed content more accessible and affordable,” said Terry Ehling, Associate Director at Project Muse. “This is an important partnership for our partner publishers– the journal content on Project MUSE will help broaden DeepDyve’s footprint within the community of researchers who are unaffiliated with an academic library, and DeepDyve will increase exposure for our publishers within that community and ultimately increase their readership.”

Project MUSE, launched in 1995, is the trusted source of complete, full-text versions of scholarly journals and books from university presses and scholarly publishers around the globe. Project MUSE was established to bridge the divide between publishers and libraries, and its partnership with DeepDyve further serves that mission. Under the terms of the agreement, a total of 100 new journal titles from more than 30 new publishers will be discoverable and rentable via DeepDyve. In addition, a subset of those journals will participate in DeepDyve’s direct-purchase program, including the ability for users to purchase and download PDFs, or pay to print pages on an individual basis. The ability to rent and purchase articles gives users the utmost flexibility to access articles in a way that best suits their budgets and usage requirements.

“Project MUSE represents an impressive collection of journals from leading university presses and scholarly societies,” said William Park, DeepDyve’s CEO. “We are enthusiastic about this collaboration, as it squarely supports our commitment to provide our users with the most reputable, informative content available.”

The Project MUSE/DeepDyve collaboration is already underway, and Project MUSE’s participating journals are expected to be discoverable via DeepDyve in October. DeepDyve offers Individual Accounts, as well as Group Plans to suit organizations of any size.
