This article reviews recent literature (e.g. Cahill and Makadon, 2013; Friedman et al., 2014; Gaither et al., 2017; Maragh-Bass et al., 2017; Martos, Wilson, and Meyer, 2017; Ruben et al., 2017; Veldhuis et al., 2017) concerning health disparities by gender and sexual orientation identity. Using data from Center for American Progress, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, and One Colorado, I performed analyses and made estimates regarding access to healthcare and health insurance, the impact of societal biases on physical health and well-being, health status indicators among women and men by sexual orientation, and heightened health risks for LGBT adults.
