Abstract
examine the medical context of psychotherapy with the elderly patient / because the interaction of medical and psychological factors is often quite complex—as well as idiosyncratic to the specific disease picture and personality of the elderly patient—[the author starts] by presenting a case example [of an 88-yr-old Black male presenting with memory problems] to ground [his] subsequent, more general discussion in a real clinical context the medical context of psychotherapy [comorbidity of psychological and medical problems, psychological and medical problems affect each other, where have all the older patients gone, physicians as providers of psychological services, psychologists' knowledge about medical problems] / suggestions for managing older patients [system issues in service provision, adapting psychotherapy for the medically ill patient] (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
