This chapter discusses the positivist view on immortality. The author argues that the moral conception which lies at the base of positivism is that we must not live for ourselves, but for others. The true positivist regards the current doctrine of immortality as profoundly immoral. It puts before every human being the notion that the life hereafter is the only worthy ideal to live and strive for. The author then discusses the chief distinctions between positivism and the older religious faiths. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
