This chapter examines spiritism and hypnotism, which millions of people believe to be demonstrative of a life beyond the grave. Topics discussed in this chapter include the phenomena of spiritualism and hypnotism; skepticism of the church; intelligence manifested in hypnotism; the power and law of telepathy; the law of suggestion; the spirit medium; and the hypothesis of duality of the mind. The author notes that they condition of the medium and the hypnotized subject are identical and are governed by the same laws. The medium is not necessarily dishonest, but hypnotized, and that the laws of suggestion control the medium. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
