A source book of Gestalt psychology. The influence of form on brightness contrast.

A source book of Gestalt psychology.: The influence of form on brightness contrast. This chapter contains several experiments on how form influences brightness contrast. The experiments show that the influence of contrast upon a figural part is not determined simply by the kind, amount, and proximity of the other parts; rather, the effect depends upon figural relations between the critical part and its whole. In these instances the greatest contrast effect was that deriving from surface appurtenance, despite the fact that the amount and proximity of contrasting brightnesses favoured effects just the opposite of those which are demonstrated in this chapter. Abstract
