A source book of Gestalt psychology.Variations in tactual impressions.

A source book of Gestalt psychology.: Variations in tactual impressions. This chapter provides a brief introduction to tactual impressions; it then gives examples which show that with the assumption of definite kinds of sensory nerves the quality of sensations is in no wise unequivocally given. The author considers structures which are more than a mere summation of peripheral excitations. Experiments are provided to show that Gestalt phenomena are not limited to the realm of higher mental processes, but can be demonstrated even in the processes of underlying simple perceptions. And the discussion shows further that the search for "simple sensations" must halt precisely at the boundary of such Gestalt phenomena. Abstract
