Resumen: El presente trabajo examina el retrato que hace Galdós de las distintas clases sociales, y en particular el retrato polifacético de la clase obrera, en dos cuentos fantásticos del autor: “Una industria que vive de la muerte” (1865) y “La princesa y el granuja” (1877). Partiendo de los estudios de Victor Fuentes, Julio Rodríguez-Puértolas y John Sinnegen sobre la evolución del concepto galdosiano de las clases sociales, este artículo propone que Galdós ya simpatizaba con protagonistas de la clase obrera en algunas publicaciones tempranas, así matizando la idea de un giro ideológico hacia esta clase a partir de Fortunata y Jacinta .
