We start the new year and this issue of ARWH by bidding farewell to Professor Sayako KANDA who served as this journal’s one of two Managing Editors for the last three years. Prof. Kanda steered, along with Managing Editor Dr. Kwangmin KIM and Reviews Editor Dr. Sundar VADLAMUDI, ARWH’s path as a significant world-historical journal. ARWH’s mandate, as you all know, is to publish original research articles and book reviews to advance research, teaching, and public discussion on world historical studies ‘in or for the Asian region’, to act as a forum for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary conversations, and to encourage historians to collaborate with scholars in adjoining disciplines including and with global historical scholars in all parts of the world. To this end, Prof. Kanda edited and introduced ‘Social and Economic History of Asia from Japanese Perspectives’, which the ARWH published as a special issue in 2021 (Volume 9, Issue 1). Prof. Kanda stepped down from the Managing Editorship late last year due to health issues, and we wish her all the best.We also take this opportunity to welcome to the editorial board our new members: Dr. Hisashi HAYAKAWA of Nagoya University, Japan, who joins the board as the
