Editorial Note

Editorial Note It was already in 1999 that practical steps were taken towards the creation of the Baltic Yearbook of International Law, with a first volume appearing in 2001. A few scholars in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania had been thinking about the need for an international legal journal which would deal with, among other issues, topics relevant to the three Baltic States. There are many different reasons for publishing the Yearbook and many goals for it to achieve. This note will outline some of these reasons and set forward the main principles and aims of the Yearbook. It is the desire of the Editors that the Baltic Yearbook become an important and useful forum for scholars and practitioners in the three States and beyond. It will aim at the further development of a necessary theoretical framework for practical solutions sought within the Baltic States in the fields of international law and related subjects. It should also become part of a more general debate on topical questions in international law and thus contribute to the development of relevant practices in the world.
