Tantilla melanocephala is a small colubrid snake that occurs throughout much of South America as far south as northern Argentina and Uruguay, and on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago (Wilson, 1987). No species of Tantilla had been recorded from the West Indies until 2006 when T. melanocephala was discovered on Mus- tique Island, one of the St. Vincent Grenadines (Henderson and Powell, 2006). The species was subsequently found on Union Island, another of the St. Vincent Grenadines (Henderson and Powell, 2009).
