Heightened competition and growing economic pressures are among the reasons cited. The global Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated the struggle. Some were found wanting when it came to responding quickly to a changed environment that impacted conventional teaching, learning and research models. This furthered accusations that universities prioritize recognition and rankings to an extent that more immediate concerns are neglected. Palpable frustration has not surprisingly led to an increase in the skepticism directed toward renowned social bodies. Remaining competitive and strengthening reputation still occupy prominent places on the agenda at HEIs. However, many institutions are also attaching considerable importance to efforts aimed at making students feel more positive about them. This has taken the form of investment into various activities to enhance student perceptions of the university’s image and quality of service provided.
