News Of Members

News Of Members for two or three years we feel that many people will automatically think of the Institute when they think of Arbitration and, indeed, may consider whether there are other disputes which could be settled the same way. Internationally, the name of the Institute must rank very highly indeed with organisations concerned with Arbitration abroad, although this is a state of affairs which has existed for some time and has only been underlined by the past year's activities and the way the Institute has been represented abroad. It is unfortunate that administrative difficulties have hampered the Council in carrying out this programme. Any institutional organisation leans heavily on its administrative staff and we hope that the new Secretary will be able soon to form a sound, settled staff to assist him in his heavy programme of work. However, the situation caused the Institute to take a long, hard, look at itself (through consultants' eyes) and the results are well known. We feel that, subject to solving its administrative problems, and reaching a healthy financial state, the Institute is indeed geared, as the Report puts it, to meet its future role. We feel, moreover, that that role could well involve the Institute in another year of favourable recognition. If so, Arbitration, and our part in it, could well enter a new era in this country. The President, Mr. Clifford A. L. Clark, has been elected President of The London Maritime Arbitrators' Association. The Past-President, Mr. Cedric Barclay, has been appointed Chairman of the Association. Mr. Arthur Cripps, R.I.B.A., (F) has been re-appointed to membership of the Bournemouth Local Valuation Panel for a six year period ending on March 31st 1979. He will serve on Valuation Courts at Bournemouth, Poole, Christ- church and Lymington. The Rt. Hon. the Lord Mais, Lord Mayor of London, (F) has been installed as Chancellor of the City University for the year 1972/73 and on the 4th December had conferred upon him the Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa). Abstract

for two or three years we feel that many people will automatically think of the Institute when they think of Arbitration and, indeed, may consider whether there are other disputes which could be settled the same way.
