However, the process of development has not been even, and it has both negative and positive impacts on the society and environment. It is truer in the case of infrastructure and resource extraction projects which lead to displacement. Therefore, the social impact assessment (SIA) is being used as an appraisal method to analyse, monitor and manage the intended and unintended social consequences, both positive and negative, of planned interventions and any social change processes invoked by those interventions. Academics and researchers across various disciplines have contributed to the study of SIA as an appraisal tool to make it more inclusive and humane.
