Letter from the publisher:

Letter from the publisher: OF Letter from the publisher To our readers: In response to a positive reception our by of growing family subscribers we're pleased to announce that beginning in our January, year-old journal will grow from a quarterly to a bimonthly publication. This means that every other month we will be sharing with the most you up-to-date informa- tion on Alzheimer's disease. Every other month, we will be bringing you ar- ticles describing current research, diagnosis, patient care, family issues, and health policy. Also in beginning January, our name will change to The American Journal of Alzheimer's Care and Research. Our new name underscores the journal's commitment to serving the interests of both the scientific and caregiving communities. Care and research are key words, because while those in- volved in research work discover a cure for this cruel disease, providing quality care for the victims and their families will continue to be our most effective strategy against it. Estimates project that within 10 years Alzheimer's disease will touch one out of three families. Because there is still so much we don't know about this disorder, and because it's an affliction that affects so many of us, it is imperative that lines of communication be kept open between all those af- fected or involved. Researchers in the lab must be tuned in to the concerns of practicing physicians. Physicians and other caregivers must be sensitive to the challenges faced by their patients and patients' families. And The AmericanJournal ofAlzheimer's Care and Research, must do what it can to provide a forum for all these groups and all these individuals, because there is still so much to be shared-still so much to be done. The American Journal of Alzheimer's Care and Related Disorders has grown in its first year. As The American Journal or Alzheimer's Care and Research, we hope to grow even more and provide a more effective publication for our readers. We're grateful to our readers for their helpful comments in let- ting us know what kinds of information are important. Very truly yours, Richard A.
