[Metro Manila’s water demand will almost double in 25 years from current levels of 5200 MLD. Currently, almost 80 percent of Metro Manila’s water source is from Angat Reservoir and its usable storage capacity is decreasing due to sediment deposition. There are other, alternative water sources but Metro Manila urgently needs to plan and seek investment to develop them to keep up with its increasing water demand, and also for water security, redundancy and resilience since one cannot solely depend on the Angat Reservoir. It is shown here that surface water sources will be primarily for large-scale, bulk water supply developments and that groundwater sources which can be deployed faster can be utilized to augment the water supplies during critical, dry periods lasting a few months. With increasing water demand, changing land use and climate, and even socio-economic and political changes, adaptive planning should be adopted.]
