[The legacy of the short-lived Qin dynasty was the unification of formerly warring petty states under authoritarian leadership. The legacy of the succeeding, and much longer-lived, Han dynasty was the creation of what then became a unified culture. Scholarly debates revolved around notions of leadership in such circumstances. By the end of the Han period (220 CE) Confucianism had become established as the dominant ideology, with an emphasis on the duality between truth and beauty.
