[This chapter provides the RAC curriculum component pertaining to treatment (through “social decision making” meetings) for the final “D” common to offenders: sociomoral stage developmental delay. Offenders tend to think at immature moral stages, that is, give superficial reasons (e.g., consequences of getting caught) for social decisions or the importance of moral values such as respecting others’ property (not stealing). Through discussion of problem situations and associated probe questions, social decision-making meetings can provide a remedial “dosage” of social perspective-taking opportunities. Phases of discussion include cultivating mature morality, remediating delay, and consolidating mature moral judgment decisions and reasons. The chapter concludes with problem situations for 10 social decision-making meetings, followed by the pertinent Facilitator’s and Observer’s Evaluation Form.]
