A Critical Discourse Analysis of South Asian Women's MagazinesIntroduction

A Critical Discourse Analysis of South Asian Women's Magazines: Introduction [The introduction sets out the scope of the study and its conceptual framework. It introduces key terms, for example, ‘poststructuralism’, ‘postcolonialism’, ‘postfeminism’, ‘postmodernism’ and ‘commodification’ and explains their relevance to the analysis of South Asian women’s magazines. A rationale for combining critical discourse analysis, semiotics and audience reception is given. The interdisciplinary nature of the approach taken is reflected in the introduction of influential theorists such as Fairclough, Butler, Mohanty and Thompson, who represent a number of disciplines including linguistics, philosophy and media studies. In order to contextualize the cultural artefacts analysed, a short introduction to the background and ethos of each of the selected magazines is supplied. Readers are also given an overview of the issues to be investigated in the remaining chapters.] http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png

[The introduction sets out the scope of the study and its conceptual framework. Readers are also given an overview of the issues to be investigated in the remaining chapters.]
