A Critical Public Relations Approach to Crisis Communication and Management: Theoretical... [Guided by the previous studies on image and crisis response, this chapter introduces the theoretical framework integrating the Public Relations (PR) and Critical Discourse Studies (CDS) perspectives, with specific research methods and the collected data presented afterwards. The integrated approach, namely a critical PR approach, will be adopted in the present study to answer the two research questions proposed in Chap. 1, which respectively address the national media representations of Malaysia’s image and the discursive representations of its response strategies during the MH370 disappearance. The data from the national media, Malaysia Airlines, and the Malaysian establishment are used for analysis in the research, which employs four linguistic tools: transitivity, appraisal, social actor, and SCCT (specifically of crisis response strategies). Each analytic tool will be explained and illustrated using examples from the data set (either the national media texts or the official statements). The final section of this chapter deals with the data collection, in which time of production (four phases of the crisis), data sources (including the media, airline, and government sources), the data list, and the process of the data collection are elaborated.] http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png

Abstract

The final section of this chapter deals with the data collection, in which time of production (four phases of the crisis), data sources (including the media, airline, and government sources), the data list, and the process of the data collection are elaborated.]
