A Discipline-Based Teaching and Learning CenterConcluding Thoughts

A Discipline-Based Teaching and Learning Center: Concluding Thoughts [In this book, we describe a 10-year effort to improve undergraduate science instruction through professional development in teaching. This effort differs from many similar initiatives nationwide in that our guiding philosophy is that professional development should be strongly rooted in the relevant scholarly disciplines of the faculty and graduate students being served. Our Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), which serves the biology and chemistry departments at the University of Maryland, predicates its programming on pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) that addresses the specific issues of teaching the sciences. This disciplinary focus is strengthened and complemented by collaboration with university-wide faculty development specialists, such as those at the Center for Teaching Excellence, who offer interdisciplinary expertise and programming.] http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png

Abstract

[In this book, we describe a 10-year effort to improve undergraduate science instruction through professional development in teaching. This disciplinary focus is strengthened and complemented by collaboration with university-wide faculty development specialists, such as those at the Center for Teaching Excellence, who offer interdisciplinary expertise and programming.]
