[Community exposure to aircraft noise can be both measured and modeled. Modeling (i.e., prediction) of noise exposure is unavoidable in prospective applications, such as disclosure of the impacts of proposed airport infrastructure construction, since noise that has not yet been created cannot be directly measured.
