A Handbook for Analytical WritingThe Writing Process

A Handbook for Analytical Writing: The Writing Process CHAPTER 7 7.1 BUILD A BLUE PRINT FOR THE PROJECT Before starting a writing project, the author should fully considering the time and other resources needed to successfully complete the work. Underestimating the investment to complete the proj- ect is common, especially for inexperienced writers. One approach to fully understand the effort needed for a project is to build a set of plans, or a blue print, that is similar to that developed by an architect designing a house. In this case, however, the writer is building a manuscript, so the blue print takes a unique form. Combining a time line with an estimated financial budget for the writing assignment provides an excellent starting point for a successful project. 7.1.1 TIME LINE Writers must develop a timeline as a part of their writing blue print. One approach for developing a timeline is to work backward from the submission date or dead line. For example, if a deadline for a term paper, grant proposal, business plan is June 1, and the current date is January 1, a time line might be as follows: Writing Project Time Line • June 1: Submit final writing • May 15 – May 31: Final http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png
