A Historical Study of Early Modern Chinese Fictions (1890—1920): Documentation, Condemnation, and... [This chapter further clarifies the relationship between Chinese culture and the influence from the introduction of foreign fictions. In the author’s opinion, during the reformative stage of the late Qing and the early Republican periods, new Chinese fictions had never slipped the leash of the tradition of Chinese literature. Along with the introduction of foreign fictions into China, influenced by as well as corresponding to it, the genre of fiction was moving to the center of literature from a peripheral position and was gradually acknowledged as a genre of literature.
