[The chapter gives a brief history of Tobago, the second, smaller island of the two-island state, and its connection to Trinidad. The chapter provides a contrast in Tobago’s and Trinidad’s histories, and traces its evolution from the eighteenth century, through its being made a Ward of Trinidad in 1899, to the twenty-first century. It examines Tobago’s status as a “colony” of Trinidad and its quest for internal self-government.
