[I well remember Carl Sagan’s documentaries in which he explained the exploration to be carried out on Mars to find out (among many other things) if there could be life on that planet. The spacecraft landed, an unmanned vehicle came out, cruised around a specific area and carried out a series of ‘tastings’ to find out whether or not there could be some kind of life on the ground. What I did not know at that time (early 1980s) was that men and women from several universities and institutions had been working for years on how to address this problem through various experiments on the white continent.]
