[The widespread acceptance of the standard religious conception of the afterlife is due to its immense emotional appeal, not its rationality. Indeed, secular critics have had little difficulty puncturing the logical self-contradictions in heaven as traditionally presented, and those objections are thoroughly reviewed in this chapter.
