[The basic conventional series is again modified official statistics. For purpose of a uniform f.o.b. valuation, imports are divided into three components. Ad-valorem imports are corrected for legal overvaluation, Treasury undervaluation of the British pound, overvaluation of manufactured commodities, and home valuation. Duty-free imports are considered to be recorded f.o.b. Specific-duty imports are corrected for official valuation between f.o.b. and c.i.f. Corrections are also made for underestimations due to exclusion of transport costs within the foreign country, underinvoicing, and smuggling.]
