Abstract

[Carbon steel corrosion is a complex phenomenon in oilfield operations, and chemical control measure using corrosion inhibitors in conjunction with other control measures is a cost-effective solution employed in industry. Commercial corrosion inhibitors are tailor-made formulations aimed at specific onsite application and thus are required to be screened using stringent laboratory test protocols for optimal end use. The author shares some of his experiences in using conventional gravimetric methods employed in screening several commercial products for various end user applications, viz., oil / gas and sea water injection transportation lines, packer / completion fluids, etc. Some recent developments in standard test method development along with details of tests, importance of certain secondary test parameters, etc., along with specific case studies are also presented.]
