[Acute cholangitis (AC) is a clinical syndrome, first described by Jean-Martin Charcot in 1877. AC is typically characterized by the triad of right upper quadrant abdominal pain, fever and jaundice. It is known to be the result of biliary stasis and biliary sepsis. It is also often referred to as ascending cholangitis or acute pyogenic cholangitis.
