A Systematic Review of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Used in Adult Burn ResearchJournal of Burn Care & Research, 38
[Although some studies have identified the characteristics of victims in acid attacks, they are limited by small sample sizes, a narrow geographical focus and a lack of data relating to perpetrators. In this chapter, we present findings from an analysis of over 1,000 crimes where corrosives were used across eight UK police areas. Possibly the largest and most comprehensive dataset on acid attacks yet developed, this resource enables us to identify the types of in which corrosives are used, victim and suspect characteristics (age, gender, ethnicity), the victim/suspect relationship, the temporal and spatial characteristics of attacks and the extent of physical injury caused by attacks. Although focusing on only eight UK areas and missing data across many cases impose limitations, the data provide a rich source of information on corrosive crime that advances our understanding of the contexts and characteristics of these crime events. It is also evident that building similar datasets in other countries where acid violence has been a problem might advance understanding of this crime considerably.]
