Applied Degree Education and the Future of Learning: Embedding Uncertainty in the Learning... [We live in a VUCA environment: Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous, where tolerance for uncertainty has become the standard. Without embedding uncertainty in the learning processes of professional and personal development, coping in the VUCA environment can lead to stress, anxiety, and vulnerability. In this article, we evaluate how the principles of VUCA can be applied in education in learning environments presenting cases from five European countries and examine, by applying thematic analysis, educators’ perceptions on how VUCA is shown in such environments from the perspective of four design elements (epistemic, instrumental & spatial, social, and temporal). The results show that principles of VUCA model can be applied in educational context and all the four design elements have important role in the framework. Abstract
