Casey confronted the burglars and sustained physi- cal injuries in the process. Although encouraged by his youth worker to report the incident to the police, Casey was not interested. Casey preferred to deal with the sit- uation on his own—he was, in his words, ‘going hunting’. The implication was that Casey would use violence in response to the violation he had endured. In between the bookending of Casey’s circumstances, Youth and Violent Performativities: Re- Examining the Connection Between Young People and Violence, Ben Lohmeyer challenges the reader to reconsider societal assumptions about young people’s use of, and exposure to, multiple forms of violence.
