Journal of Advancement in Medicine Volume 12, Number 2, Summer 1999 Epstein S S. The Politics of Cancer Revisited. Fremont Center, NY, East Ridge Press, 1998:pp770. This well known cancer activist physician has now entered the public arena once again with a new tome that documents the fact that bil- lions of public dollars are being misspent in an ill-conceived "war on cancer." There is an Introduction by Congressman John Conyers, Jr. and a Foreword by Congressman David Obey. Praises for the book are sung by leading voices in the medical, labor, and women's health fields. Frank D Wiewel, Founder of People Against Cancer, describes this book under "Praise for The Politics of Cancer Revisited" as even more chilling than Epstein's original work, published in 1978. This book is an update, with new data, charts, epidemiology, and science to refortify Epstein's contention that, not only is the war on cancer unfinished, it is far from triumphant. In an Author's Note, Dr Epstein noted that his 1978 book docu- mented the relationship between increasing cancer rates and avoid- able exposure to occupational carcinogens. He exposed the reckless culpability of the petrochemical industry and the unresponsiveness of the National Cancer Institute
