Abstract

[Sexual fantasies are deemed to be a key factor for understanding sexual offending. However, sexual fantasy has not been well-conceptualised within the literature. For example, is it important to distinguish a ‘sexual fantasy’ from ‘sexual fantasising? If so, is sexual fantasising different to experiencing a fleeting sexual thought? In this chapter, these questions will be answered using propositions offered by the recently developed Dual-Process Model of Sexual Thinking (DPM-ST). Following this, the implications for forensic practice provided by the DPM-ST and existing research will be discussed. This includes existing and emerging ideas for approaching, assessing, and treating offence-related sexual fantasising. Ultimately, the chapter hopes to inspire future research and more of effective forensic practice.]
