Therefore, it becomes of the utmost importance to provide practitioners with knowledge to help identify male offenders that are more at risk of escalating to a sexual homicide. This chapter reviews the debate surrounding the various sexual homicide definitions as well as the evolution of the studies attempting to assess whether sexual homicides are committed by a distinct type of offender.
