Journal of Advancement in Medicine Volume 12, Number 2, Summer 1999 Editorial: The Immunization Assault In September 1998 a special report of the National Vaccine Informa- tion Center (NVIC) was published. The title was "Hepatitis B vaccine: the untold story." The editor, Barbara Lee Fisher, reported that par- ents across the country have been contacting the NVIC in increasing numbers to report opposition to regulations being enacted by state health department officials. These regulations legally require chil- dren to be injected with three doses of hepatitis B vaccine before being allowed to attend daycare canters, kindergarten, elementary school, high school and college. This has now expanded as employers, bowing to government pressure, require individuals to show proof of this vaccination before employment. This is in spite of the fact that there have been serious health prob- lems following hepatitis B vaccination among both children and adults. The NVIC report stated that hepatitis B vaccination has been pro- moted without truthfully informing the public about the risks of ac- quiring the disease or the known and unknown risks of the vaccine designed to prevent it. Citizens are deprived of informed consent, a human right when any medical procedure is used
