Abstract
[The concept of quality of life (QOL) and its extension, family quality of life (FQoL) are increasingly being studied in the field of intellectual disabilities in China as an important framework for assessing family’s need of support and service, guiding organization and service delivery system changes and evaluating quality family outcomes (Xu, Wang, & Hu, 2005; Xu, Wang, & Xiang, 2007). This chapter provides an overview of individual and family quality of life research in China and discusses a number of important issues regarding applications of QOL and FQoL framework for addressing the challenges that China’s special education faces. The etic and emic properties of FQoL construct of Chinese families with children with intellectual disabilities are discussed as well.]
