Increases in life expectancy, active population and survival to road accidents create a growing population of patients with traumatic pathology, and therefore of nonunions. A proper surgical treatment appears an essential condition to obtain the necessary initial stability, that is the basis of the healing process. But now it clearly appears that there are risk factors related to the patient that can make such a process difficult. It is the rationalization of these principles that founded the Non Union Scoring System (NUSS).
