Abstract
[This chapter contains a brief description of the trends in international migration in Europe at the turn of the century. It starts with a concise analysis of the quality and comparability of international migration data. The core of the chapter is devoted to an overview of migration in Europe, analysing both the historical patterns (since 1945) and the most recent migration developments. The empirical study of migration trends is concluded with an identification of the major directions of population flows concerning the European countries under study.]
