On the Ethnographic Part of the MixOrganizational Research Methods, 13
[The focus of this chapter is the case of belated industrialisation in Southern Italy, the FIAT factory in Melfi (Basilicata Region), based on two different phases of fieldwork (1999–2003 and 2011–2014) and up to the current phase, when FIAT and Chrysler merged to become FIAT-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). The important organisational turn for the FIAT Company, inspired by just-in-time production and the total quality model, was not able to cover the strong contradictions encountered. The factory has passed from the post-Fordist era to a new global productive dimension, increasing the insecurity of its workers. They can be described as actors involved in keeping together old and new strategies while working toward more and more uncertain goals. Increasingly due to pressures from globalisation, the workers no longer feel they are protagonists in their working lives.]
