[The chapter starts by introducing two perspectives of the evolution of society—the information perspective and the economic perspective. They are closely coupled, in that the economic perspective describes the physical environment in which the information processing and, above all, exchange takes place, and in that the actions and processes in the economic perspective are determined by the information available.
