Measures of Social Evolution: More Detailed Considerations [The chapter starts by introducing two perspectives of the evolution of society—the information perspective and the economic perspective. They are closely coupled, in that the economic perspective describes the physical environment in which the information processing and, above all, exchange takes place, and in that the actions and processes in the economic perspective are determined by the information available. The latter relationship illustrates the great importance of the availability and quality of the information circulating in society. In addition to the economic measures of Chap. 2, two additional measures are introduced—social and structural complexity, but although they are conceptually important, they remain largely qualitative as far as nations are concerned, because significant data is difficult to obtain.] http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png

Abstract

[The chapter starts by introducing two perspectives of the evolution of society—the information perspective and the economic perspective. 2, two additional measures are introduced—social and structural complexity, but although they are conceptually important, they remain largely qualitative as far as nations are concerned, because significant data is difficult to obtain.]
