Abstract

[This paper examines how local farmers in Central Tanzania can develop economic initiatives that will significantly impact their ability to participate in cost sharing measures of financing quality education in the region. This chapter offers suggestions on how post-2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) could enhance their international development framework through social capital theories and social entrepreneurial concepts to build local capacity in hard to reach areas. I reflect critically on the effects of postcolonial theories that have impeded the construction of a more responsible and accountable system of subsidizing education at the grassroots level, the role of international aid, and alternative methods for funding quality education reform. The findings in this discussion provide an overview of current social and educational policy conditions in Central Tanzania and explore how the community can become social entrepreneurs empowered to invest in their own education development.]
