[As shown in Section 2.7, many mobile scenarios involve devices that store partial replicas containing only a subset of the items in a data collection. Partial (or filtered) replication supports devices with limited storage and can reduce communication by selectively disseminating items only to the devices where they are needed. The replication protocols and techniques described above ignore issues that arise with partial replicas.
