[First, this chapter analyzes the elementary operations involved in Trobriander and Guarani-Ñandeva string figure corpora: although the elementary operations are roughly the same the occurrence of certain operations may vary significantly from one corpus to another. Second, it is demonstrated that some sub-procedures were used as the basis for the creation of new string figure procedures and thus allowed the production of genuine systems of transformation. This viewpoint makes it possible to represent each of these corpora of string figures as a tree diagram, bringing to light their arborescent structure. Finally, this chapter ends by examining phenomena, such as the iterations of sub-procedures, the transformations of one figure into another, the variations on a string figure procedure made possible by altering a single elementary operation, and the existence of several procedures leading to the same final figure, all of which confirm the thesis of a connection between the creation of string figure algorithms and mathematics.]
