[This chapter examines the connection between satisfaction with personal safety and subjective well-being (SWB). It uses results drawn from both the general literature and the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index. Three constructs are employed to interpret the safety – SWB linkage as SWB Homeostasis, normative ranges for SWB, and the distinction between causal and indicator variables. It is concluded that the results can be effectively interpreted using these three constructs, and that together they explain why the linkage between safety and SWB is generally weak.]
