The Charismatic Movement in Taiwan from 1945 to 1995 : The Loosing of the Holy Spirit: The... [This chapter first discusses the more prominent church growth initiatives in Taiwan in the 1970s, including the Taiwan Church Growth Society’s efforts. It then accounts for how Allen Swanson’s endorsement of the principles adopted for church growth and renewal by David Yonggi Cho of Yoido Full Gospel Church resulted in a group of 250 church leaders from Taiwan visiting the Yoido Church in 1979. The trip became an immediate catalyst for the rapid proliferation of the charismatic message in Taiwan in the early 1980s, which was beyond the expectation of Chinese Campus Crusade for Christ (Taiwan), the organizer. Lin discusses several significant developments that contributed to the gradual and widespread recognition of the Charismatic Movement in Taiwan from 1980 to 1995. These efforts include the founding of the Miaoli Prayer Mountain (1981) and the Elim Bookstore (1982), the ministry of Zeb Bradford Long, the formation of the Bread of Life—Hosanna Ministry alliance (1987/8), and the growth of non-charismatic-turned-charismatic churches in the 1980s.
