The Family Council HandbookFamily Leadership

The Family Council Handbook: Family Leadership [Leadership in a family requires courage, optimism, persistence, and a focus on serving. It requires doing the right thing for the family even when there may be some family members showing apathy, resistance, or opposition. This is challenging enough when working in a paid position, but many family leadership positions are unpaid, making family leaders susceptible to questioning the value of their work when appreciation is ambivalent. On the other hand, strong family leadership can make an enormous difference in the life of the family and in the family’s ability to function as a cohesive, supportive, and caring group. Seeing the impact on the overall family and its members can be incredibly rewarding and is a lasting legacy for family leaders. This chapter will focus on how family leaders can excel at their role, whether leading the family council, a committee, or a task force. We use the term “family group” when referring to these various leadership bodies of the family. These concepts are especially relevant for family members who wish to assume stronger leadership positions in the family though we recommend all family members read this chapter so they can develop a greater empathy for those who assume leadership roles on behalf of everyone. We encourage family leaders to review chapters 5 and 7 of this book, as there are many additional insights that can be gained when leading a family group.] http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png

Abstract

[Leadership in a family requires courage, optimism, persistence, and a focus on serving. We encourage family leaders to review chapters 5 and 7 of this book, as there are many additional insights that can be gained when leading a family group.]
