Abstract

[This chapter reports an analysis of the development and well-being trends of the 162 countries included in the comprehensive analysis. These 162 countries, as previously reported, represent a total of 95% of the world’s population. The only exceptions to this total are the small island developing and, in some cases, land-locked nations of developing Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean (UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, 2018). These countries account for only a small percentage of the world’s total population but, due to rapid global warming, are among the most vulnerable global populations worldwide, especially with respect to massive flooding, tsunamis, and the like. In any case, the special conditions and unique conditions confronting this important block of 5% of the world’s countries are not discussed at length here.]
