[This chapter demonstrates how since following its launch in Icelandic society the University of the Third AgeUniversity of the Third Age has been well received on both popular and academic levels. The first University of the Third AgeUniversity of the Third Age in Iceland was established in Reykjavik in 2012. Its aim is to provide its members with a diversified selection of learning activities—thus, serving as a platform for the learning and mutual dissemination of knowledge. The learning programmes are based on peer-learning activities, and there are no educational requirements, such as qualifications, for enrolment and no examinations. A second University of the Third AgeUniversity of the Third Age was founded in 2017, this time in Suðurnes. There is no doubt that the third ageThird age concept has arrived in the Icelandic society to stay. The message directed to the 50+ generation—that it is never too late to rethink your situation in life, embark on new things, fulfil your ambitions, and act upon your dreams and desires—has been enthusiastically received by all Icelandic citizens irrespective of age. As the number of people in their third ageThird age will increase faster than the younger generations, it is important that society does not perceive the older generations as a burden, but celebrates their potential for creativity and productivity.
